EPFL team develops on-board system to capture CO2 from trucks; reducing emissions by 90%

Green Car Congress

Researchers at EPFL have patented a new concept that could cut trucks’ CO 2 emissions by almost 90%. The EPFL system captures CO 2 directly in the trucks’ exhaust system and liquefies it in a box on the vehicle’s roof. The patented concept is the subject of an open-access paper published in Frontiers in Energy Research.

New process uses localized surface plasmons for room-temperature conversion of CO2 to CO

Green Car Congress

Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and their colleagues have demonstrated a room-temperature method that could significantly reduce carbon dioxide levels in fossil-fuel power plant exhaust, one of the main sources of carbon emissions in the atmosphere.

What we don’t admit about carbon dioxide

Electric Auto Association

But before consumers assign appropriate value to low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, they must make an accurate judgment about the malevolence of this well-known gas. Unfortunately, our intuitive concepts about CO2 conflict with our scientific appraisal of its harmfulness. Time for a name change?

A DFC stack can thus be used as a carbon purification membrane—transferring CO 2 from a dilute oxidant stream to a more concentrated fuel exhaust stream, allowing the CO 2 to be easily and affordably removed for sequestration or industrial use. Most of the hydrogen is consumed in the anode power production reaction. Alstom Power Inc.

Volkswagen TDI diesel equipped with a common-rail diesel injection system, turbocharger with variable turbine geometry, and a high pressure exhaust gas recirculation system. They then installed a port-fuel injection system for gaseous fuels; a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation system; and cylinder-pressure sensors in all four cylinders.

CO2 emissions in g/km: 99; efficiency class: A+. ›. With the gasoline tank reduced in size to 9 liters (for a Golf Variant TGI, that corresponds to a range of approximately 200 kilometers) and now serving merely as a backup, this is referred to as a quasi-monovalent drive concept. extra-urban 3.0 / combined 3.6;
