Three of the most popular plug-in hybrids in 2020 all emitted more CO 2 than advertised when tested in the real world, according to tests commissioned by European environmental NGO Transport & Environment (T&E). T&E said governments should therefore end the purchase subsidies and tax breaks for plug-in hybrids.

California surpassed 1 million electric vehicles (1,054,095 units)—battery-electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel-cell electric—sold cumulatively through the 4 th quarter of 2021, according to the California Energy Commission (CEC), making it the first US state to achieve this milestone. 379,125 PHEV (36% ).

Volvo Cars reported sales of 47,561 cars in January, a decline by 20.2% Sales of Volvo Cars’ Recharge (electrified) models increased by 11.5% of all Volvo cars sold globally during the month. of total European sales during the month (9,926 units—down 2%—of which 7,940 were PHEVs and 1,986 were BEVs).

The plug-in hybrid version of its new Tonale small SUV has gone on sale in Australia, priced from a chunky $77,500 before on-roads for the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV. The price puts the Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Q4 in line with full electric small SUV rivals such as the Volvo XC40 Pure Electric ($73,990) or Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 ($81,700).
