Chevrolet will offer a small number—initially approximately 500 through California dealers—MY 2016 Silverado pickup trucks equipped with eAssist mild-hybrid technology. Within his talk about the need for a US energy policy at the IHS CERAWeek 2013 energy conference in Houston, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson outlined some highlights of the company’s fuel economy plan through the 2016 model year. A good rule of thumb is that a 10% reduction in curb weight will reduce fuel consumption by about 6.5%.

Chevrolet Malibu ECO PowerFlow screen. Chevrolet has introduced the 2013 Malibu ECO, its most fuel-efficient midsize sedan yet. The Malibu ECO features GM’s eAssist light electrification technology ( earlier post ), which is engineered to deliver an estimated 26 mpg in city driving and 38 mpg on the highway.

Fletcher is responsible for the Extended Range Electric Vehicle propulsion system in the Chevrolet Volt as well as the propulsion systems in GM’s upcoming line-up of Plug-In Hybrid Elecrtic Vehicles.
