UPS to add 40 series hydraulic hybrid vehicles to its fleet

UPS is deploying 40 new medium-duty series hydraulic hybrid vehicles (HHVs): 20 in Baltimore and 20 in Atlanta. Both deployments were supported in part by grants from the US Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program. The HHVs in Baltimore will be deployed immediately while the vehicles in Atlanta will be introduced before the end of 2012.

The official announcement was made at a ribbon-cutting celebration commemorating the first wheels-on-the-ground funded by MHTI at the Nestle Waters North America Deer Park facility in Baltimore. MHTI is made possible through the creation of a public-private partnership led by the DOE and its Clean Cities program, together with the MEA and DTNA.

Shell Oil Products US has begun a market test of Shell Nitrogen Enriched Diesel, extending the company’s exclusive “Nitrogen Enriched” advanced cleaning system to diesel. Shell Nitrogen Enriched Diesel is an ultra low sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) with an exclusive advanced cleaning system that helps protect diesel engines against performance-robbing gunk (carbon deposits) build-up on fuel injectors with continual use.

Plug In Partners

The Plug-In Partners campaign has now surpassed 6,000 fleet orders. Soft” fleet orders are a critical component of the Plug-In Partners goal of demonstrating to automakers that a market exists for flexible fuel plug-in hybrids. As fleet orders increase, city governments around the country also continue to join the coalition. CATS’ fleet and financial plans call for the replacement 1998, 1999 and 2007 year diesel buses with new diesel buses in fiscal year 2012. North Park Electrification - Electric Power Delivery System for Outdoor Bus Parking: Construct electrified stalls that will deliver electrical power for up to 80 vehicles and provide services such as heating and air-conditioning to vehicles that would otherwise be left idling during overnight cleaning and prior to morning pullout.

January 24, 2006—Declaring the country’s economy, environmental health and national security at risk, a grassroots coalition of cities including Austin, Baltimore, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle as well as electric utilities and national policy organizations today kicked off a nationwide campaign to urge automakers to accelerate development of plug-in hybrid vehicles.
