German power-to-gas facility opens green methanation plant; €28M STORE&GO project

Green Car Congress

million) STORE&GO research project. While the current facility feeds pure hydrogen (“WindGas”) directly into the gas grid, the new methanation plant provides for the generation of “green” methane. This stored energy is then available as backup whenever there is an insufficient supply of solar and wind power.

E.ON developing pilot hydrogen plant for storing wind power in the German gas grid

Green Car Congress

is developing a pilot plant in Falkenhagen in the north east of Germany to convert power from wind energy into hydrogen which can then be stored in the country’s gas grid. Using power from renewable energy sources, the plant will produce about 360 m 3 (30 kg) of hydrogen per hour from 2013 onwards through electrolysis.

Arizona State University Professor’s Work to Stabilize the Grid Pays Off

Cars That Think

Whenever new technologies are introduced into the power grid, there’s always a chance they could disrupt the system, possibly even leading to blackouts. Finding ways to deal with the impact on the grid caused by incorporating renewable energy has been the focus of Vijay Vittal ’s research for nearly 20 years.

McPhy Energy premieres first industrial system coupling electrolysis and solid state hydrogen storage

Green Car Congress

The generator, which produces hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, is manufactured by McPhy Italy and powered by 60 kW of electricity from the local electrical grid. The gas is then stored in McPhy’s HDS 100 system, which is based on magnesium hydride technology developed and manufactured by McPhy Energy in La Motte-Fanjas, France.

Thüga Group begins construction of power-to-gas demonstration plant in Frankfurt

Green Car Congress

The basic concept of power-to-gas (or e-Gas, as Audi calls it), is to “store” excess renewable electricity by producing hydrogen, which can then either be converted to methane; injected into the gas distribution grid directly; or used as a vehicle fuel. The operational data will be shared by the whole Thüga group.
