EPA proposes Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) volumes for 2023-2025; seeking input on future modifications

Because the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (EISA) does not include volumes after 2022, this is the first time that EPA is setting these proposed biofuel volume targets without using those outlined in statute. The Iowa Soybean Association and Iowa Biodiesel Board also voiced concerns over the lackluster biodiesel growth proposed.

EIA: E85 fueling station availability is increasing, but slowly; in 2% of all retail stations

The number of retail fueling stations offering E85 blend (up to 85% ethanol) has grown rapidly since 2007, according to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA). The share of nationwide E85 stations in the five traditional ethanol-producing states of the Midwest fell from 54% in 2007 to 36% in 2013.

Project LIBERTY cellulosic ethanol plant comes online; corn waste as feedstock

Once operating at full, commercial-scale, the biorefinery in Emmetsburg, Iowa will produce 25 million gallons of cellulosic ethanol per year. USDA approves conditional commitment for $25M guaranteed loan for new Fiberight biorefinery

The plant will be constructed by Fiberight, LLC, based in Blairstown, Iowa. Other funding comes from the State of Iowa. million grant from the Iowa Power Fund in 2010. Fiberight, LLC was incorporated in 2007 for the purpose of converting an existing ethanol facility into a cellulosic ethanol facility in Blairstown.

Albemarle expands its biofuels catalyst portfolio with Catilin acquisition
