PNNL biocrude-to-diesel demo passes 2,000-hour catalyst stability milestone

Green Car Congress

The biocrude oil came from many different sources, including wastewater sludge from Detroit, and food waste collected from prison and an army base. Just as crude oil from petroleum sources must be refined to be used in vehicles, biocrude needs to be refined into biofuel. Biowaste to biofuel conversion process.

Evonik investigating bacterial conversion of syngas to specialty chemicals; 2-HIBA demo

Green Car Congress

Waste gas is one example of a source of syngas. These first-generation industrial biotechnology processes involve the use of plant oils, grains, and sugars as raw materials for fermentation. Evonik Industries has demonstrated the use of bacteria to convert syngas to pure 2-hydroxyisobutyric acid (2-HIBA) under industrial conditions.
