At the IAA Commercial Vehicles Fair in Hannover (23-30 September 2010), Opel will unveil a research project on a Vivaro e-Concept, an electric van with up to 400 kilometers (249 miles) extended range. The e-Concept is conceived to have 5.0 cubic meter storage capacity able to carry 750 kilograms (1,600 lbs) of load. —Chris Lacey.

Enterprise Rent-a-Car to offer Chevrolet Volt

Enterprise Rent-A-Car will be the first to offer Chevrolet Volt extended-range electric vehicles (EVs) for daily and weekly rentals later this month. along with a new charging station. It also gives customers a chance to learn more about the charging process, Enterprise says.

The Hummer H3E is a plug-in electric vehicle with an onboard range extender. It’s designed to go about 40 miles in all-electric mode after which a small gas powered engine kicks in and powers a generator which then re-charges the batteries. The H3E can go about 400 miles before needing to refuel.
