Volkswagen is the first automaker to transport most of its new vehicles overseas using low-emission LNG ships. These should be traveling the world’s oceans by the end of 2023, serving the North American route between Emden in Germany and Veracruz in Mexico. Only unavoidable emissions are offset by climate protection measures.

EcoLum is delivered globally from predominantly hydro-powered smelters in North America and Europe.

Last week, the European Commission adopted a package of proposals to make the EU’s climate, energy, land use, transport and taxation policies fit for reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, compared to 1990 levels (Fit for 55). As a result, all new cars registered as of 2035 will be zero-emission.
