EU research project IDEALFUEL seeks to develop marine low-sulfur heavy fuel oils from biomass; Bio-HFO

Green Car Congress

In an EU-funded research project, an international consortium is aiming to develop new production methods for sustainable marine fuels to replace heavy fuel oils in shipping. Although cleaner fuels are available, many companies opt for HFOs due to their low cost. However, HFOs are banned in the national waters of many countries.

Wärtsilä in coalition to promote LNG as a marine fuel

Green Car Congress

Wärtsilä and other leading marine industry players have formed a coalition, known as SEA/LNG, to accelerate the widespread adoption of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a marine fuel. LNG offers significant environmental advantages for shipping compared to heavy fuel oil (HFO), which remains the predominant fuel used today.

Tenneco Powertrain adds hydrogen to its engine testing capabilities

Green Car Congress

We contend it’s not combustion-engine technology causing green-house gas emissions in the product-use phase; it is the fuel used in the ICE that defines the vehicle emissions.

Inland navigation vessels can now fuel with LNG in the Port of Amsterdam

Green Car Congress

Inland navigation vessels can now bunker LNG (liquefied natural gas) in the Port of Amsterdam. Two Dutch ships currently run entirely on LNG, the Greenstream and the Greenrhine, and one ship—the Argonon—uses dual fuel technology (LNG and gas oil mixed). The LNG was also supplied by Shell.
