Within his talk about the need for a US energy policy at the IHS CERAWeek 2013 energy conference in Houston, GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson outlined some highlights of the company’s fuel economy plan through the 2016 model year. A good rule of thumb is that a 10% reduction in curb weight will reduce fuel consumption by about 6.5%.

UPS announced an update to 125 Workhorse E-GEN series hybrid electric delivery trucks that improve fuel economy as part of the company’s broader Rolling Laboratory approach. 4-cylinder engine; charging capability remains the same, as does the electric range. The smaller engine will improve fuel economy, however.

According to a report by Smart Energy Decisions , there were more than one million electric vehicles (EVs) in commercial and government fleets in the United States as of 2021, up from just over 300,000 in 2019.
