The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) released a white paper, “ Transportation Electrification: Utility Fleets Leading the Charge ,” that focuses on the electric power industry’s effort to accelerate the expansion of electric transportation in commercial and retail markets, beginning with electric utility fleets.

Consumers will not automatically make the switch to plug-in electric vehicles if running costs are high, a recharging station network is not in place, or if new technologies are not user-friendly, according to a new policy paper by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) European Bureau.

To reverse this trend the ships in use, the fuels that power them and the related infrastructure all need to change as the industry transitions to low- or zero-carbon maritime fuels. The Fourth IMO Greenhouse Gas study, published in August 2020, predicts that emissions could increase by as much as 130% by 2050 compared with 2008 levels.

ARB staff then published a white paper summarizing possible changes to the ZEV regulation along with attachments on ZEV technology status; a 2050 GHG analysis; and complimentary policies. Instead don’t we want to know what percentage of the on-road fleet are ZEVs in 2050, as this will help determine the GHG emissions?
