Each has a very similar price tag. Those cars are the 2014 BMW i3 and the 2014 Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive. This summer, buyers will have the option of two electric cars that on the surface, offer very similar attributes. Both are from Germany, for a start. Each offers four doors and a liftback-style luggage area.

And interestingly, though Mercedes-Benz India maintains its lead, BMW India is closing in fast. Interestingly one out of every four Mercedes-Benz cars sold belongs to the top end luxury segment; which the company categorises as cars with a price tag more than Rs 1.5 percent to 17,569 units. The sole S90 sedan went home to 225 buyers.

Although losing out on the top award this year, BMW’s ‘M Power’ 4-liter V8 topped the 3-liter to 4-liter category and its 3-liter DI Twin Turbo was named the best 2.5-liter BMW shared a third category win with PSA for their 1.6-liter liter (BlueEfficiency C-Class, BlueEfficiency E-Class). The DS3 will be available with a choice of Euro V power plants consisting of two HDi diesel units and three BMW co-developed gasoline engines. It does this by the addition of a stop/start mechanism, as found in models from the likes of BMW. This new system will initially be found in A-, B- and C-Class models, but it’s likely that it will be rolled out on to other models in the future, starting with the E-class in 2010. A wagon version of BMW’s all-electric i5 has been confirmed for Australia, arriving in the third quarter of this year. The i5 M60 xDrive Touring lands with a chunky price tag of $219,900 before on-roads – $4000 more than the all-wheel-drive dual motor sedan equivalent which went on sale last year.
