Here goes (in no particular order): Things That Went Well During the Conversion The 914 AC kit from Electro Automotive is a good one. I modified the wiring in the original 914 AC kit (as suggested by Paul Jorg) to turn on the regen when the brake lights came on instead of controlling regen by releasing the accelerator pedal.

They provided an upgrade kit with lock washers and loctite to remedy the problem. Now that the battery boxes are arriving on Tuesday, I'm realizing that I really don't want to take the risk of having the bolts come loose. Here are the pieces for the upgrade kit above one of the motor bolts. While this was a real pain.

Many months ago, I installed a PakTrakr ( www.paktrakr.com ) to monitor the state of my batteries and it's been acting rather flakey. The PakTrakr consists of several serially connect "remotes" which drive a "display" unit in the driver compartment. I hope this pack lasts 2-3 years while the costs of lithium batteries come down.

Well, after yesterday's letdown with the front battery box not fitting into the steel frame, I loaded up on caffeine and pulled out the grinding wheel. Here is the front battery box not fitting into the front rack. Next up is installing the auxiliary battery. Also, the instructions for the DC kit may not apply to the AC kit.

After studying the AC kit diagrams and reading the motor controller documentation from Azure Dynamics, I think I understand a little better what all these relays and terminal strips are for. To allow enough room for wire connections and put the pieces in roughly the right place, I had to angle some of them.

I'm still waiting on the battery racks/boxes from ElectroAuto, so I took care of a bunch of little things that have been neglected so far. Here's the battery tray that the directions said to remove. It's a pity that we have to remove this, but the size of the golf-cart batteries clearly interfere with the latch.

Just before noon, I drove with the ICE vehicle over to the 914, charged the accessory battery with jumper cables for about 20 minutes, then quickly drove the 914 back home to the garage for repairs. 7 in the kit instructions), through a bolt connecting the large red wires, and then back to the ignition switch.

Since the positive terminal of the auxiliary battery is tied to the unswitched 12V rail, the negative terminal of the battery is at zero volts. Here are the negative high-voltage connections. The dangling white and green wire go to the ammeter shunt and the dangling black wire I think is not used in the AC kit.

I've drilled two 1-inch holes in the rear trunk floor to route the high-current battery cables from the PowerPosts shown above to the motor controller. As I mentioned before, I'm replacing the #2 gauge cable provided in the kit with a thicker 2/0 welding cable. Fortunately, I used Noalox on all subsequent crimp connections.

Does it get its state from the battery voltage or does it require the amp-hour counter to be attached? If so, do you sell a device that I can connect to them? Is the SOC_BUF signal also active on my DMOC445?

I double checked the connections on the neutral-start relay in the engine compartment and everything looked fine. It's in the place of the most-positive battery terminal in the fuel compartment. I logged more variables and saw that the ISR2CarDirection status register was zero when the car failed to start and 1 when the car worked.

Here is the 9-in-1 wire for the AC kit pulled through the grommet between the passenger compartment and the fuel compartment. The yellow and brown wire need to come out of the flexwrap so that we can connect them to circuits in the front luggage compartment. The holes for the accessory battery mount fit just fine.

Today, I installed the last kit piece that I have from Electro Automotive: the motor controller wiring harness. The motor drive cable isn't really bolted in and will probably come up through a hole in the trunk floor instead to prevent interference with the rear battery rack. This made the installation much easier.
