The 2023 Highlander turbo models offer a choice of FWD or two different available AWD systems. For the Highlander Gas L, LE and XLE models, the optional AWD system can send up to 50% of available torque to the rear wheels to help counter wheel slip when necessary.

Since my car was new and I had no practical data on how much my car could go on a single charge, I looked at some YouTube videos and assumed that the minimum range I could expect would be around 300kms at full charge. Here is a screenshot of the chargers available enroute via Plugshare. More on this later.

VW quotes a maximum charging rate of 170 kilowatts, and DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity in about 20 minutes (under ideal circumstances).

Appendix E: PHEV and the Electrical Grid—fast charge v. slow charge. Gasoline/diesel fueling stations to replenish the liquid fuel for these engines are readily available. Furthermore, even the older version PHEV can recharge at a slow rate using local solar, wind, water-derived or other net zero CO 2 fuel.
