Mayor of Paris and Chair of C40 Cities Anne Hidalgo and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan announced they are working together to create schemes to score new cars based on their real-world emissions and their impact on air quality and to provide that data in an accurate and accessible form to the public.

UK Transport Secretary Philip Hammond has committed an additional £5 million (US$8 million) funding to the Mayor of London Boris Johnson to help improve air quality in the capital. The funding is for a program of localized measures designed to improve London’s air quality and help compliance with legally binding European targets.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, outlined plans for a number of changes to the Congestion Charge scheme next year. These measures would sit alongside the proposed removal of the Western Extension of the Zone ( earlier post ) and a range of mitigation measures, and would all be introduced by December 2010 subject to legal processes.

Despite this, an analysis of more than 1,800 major roads show that a small number of these—81 or 4%—are due to breach legal pollution limits for NO 2 , with 33 of these outside of London. The UK assesses air quality, as well as legal compliance with these obligations, via a combination of monitoring data and modeling.

ISA speed map for Greater London. Transport for London (TfL) will begin a six-month trial of Intelligent Speed Adaptation (ISA) technology which aims to reduce road casualties and help drivers avoid speeding penalties.
