Ten Honda manufacturing facilities in North America achieve Zero Waste to Landfill

Green Car Congress

Ten of 14 Honda manufacturing plants in North America are now operating with zero waste to landfill, while the remaining four plants are functioning with “virtually zero” waste to landfill. Zero waste to landfills is a key target in Honda’s “Green Factory” initiative in North America. Honda Manufacturing of Alabama, in Lincoln, Ala., became the first zero-waste-to-landfill auto plant in North America at the outset of production in 2001.

Study of californium borate could lead to new technologies for radioactive waste storage and nuclear fuel recycling

Green Car Congress

Albrecht-Schmitt said that the discoveries could help scientists build new storage containers for radioactive waste, plus help separate radioactive fuel, aiding in its recycling. Dixon, professor of chemistry at the University of Alabama, and his graduate student, Ted Garner, provided the calculations and theory on why the californium could bond in such unique ways, while scientists at Argonne National Laboratory helped correlate the theory with the experiments.
