VERBIO acquired the mothballed cellulosic ethanol plant from DuPont, the previous operator, at the end of 2018. This turns driving vehicles into a form of climate protection. As part of a pilot project, Audi is procuring 20-inch wheels for the Audi e-tron GT electric car that are made from low-CO 2 emission aluminum supplied by Alcoa to RONAL GROUP, the wheel’s manufacturer. The joint venture ELYSIS —formed by Alcoa and Rio Tinto in 2018 ( earlier post )—is now further developing this process.

Whenever a trial vehicle enters a controlled zone, its electric-drive mode is triggered and the zero-emission driving green miles are documented.

According to a new study published by the ifo Institue Center for Economic Studies (CESifo) in Germany, EVs will barely help cut CO 2 emissions in the country over the coming years, as the introduction of electric vehicles does not necessarily lead to a reduction in CO 2 emissions from road traffic given the current power generation mix.
