The LCFS requires a 10% reduction in the carbon intensity (in gCO 2 e/MJ) of transportation fuels by 2020, as measured on a lifecycle basis.

Virgin Atlantic proved the technical viability of biofuels at high altitude with its test flight in early 2008. For next steps, Boeing, in cooperation with UOP and the US Air Force Research Laboratory, is preparing a comprehensive research report for submission to the ASTM International Aviation Fuel Committee later this year.
