You could get a new Alero with a Getrag five-on-the-floor all the way through the demise of Oldsmobile in 2004. I'd been looking for a discarded 1999-2004 Alero or 1999-2005 Grand Am with a manual transmission for years, with no success until I spotted this car. Feel free to debate these theological points in the comments.

If we look at the fine print, GM actually introduced a sort-of-a-hybrid vehicle as a 2004 model , though the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrid/GMC Sierra Hybrid didn't have regenerative braking. In fact, fuel prices went insane right around the time that review was written.

Shanghai GM (Shenyang) Norsom Motors was established in 2004. The joint venture manufactures the Buick GL8 family and the Chevrolet Cruze compact sedan. To support the project, an automotive parts and logistics zone is being planned by the Shenyang government in the Auto City Industrial Park. GM China and SAIC each hold 25% stakes.
