The FedEx fleet of hybrid-electric vehicles has leapt by more than 50 per cent from 172 to 264 after the company added 92 hybrid-electric trucks to its delivery fleet by converting existing models. These standard trucks used in the retrofit programme were models from 2000 or 2001 with 300,000-500,000 miles on the clock.

Nissan estimates that the CO2 emissions of all new vehicles in 2050 would need to be reduced by 90 per cent compared to 2000 levels and as a result Nissan is reviewing its road map for emissions of new vehicles. Now it will introduce a clean-diesel engine into the Japanese market in spring 2010.
