Under its newly-unveiled Genesis 2015 plan, the University of South Carolina will reduce CO 2 emissions from its fleet of vehicles by 90% within five years. The university has about 400 vehicles that are used for business, maintenance and transportation of students, said Derrick Huggins, associate vice president for transportation.

The University of Delaware has signed the first license for its vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology with AutoPort, Inc., If the initial test is successful, and V2G vehicles are subsequently manufactured, the University would receive a royalty for each vehicle sold with V2G equipment. Bi-directional power converter up to 18 kW.

The US Department of Energy has selected 13 projects for investment of up to $62 million over five years to research, develop, and demonstrate Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) systems capable of providing low-cost electrical power. eSolar will design, build, and test a CSP power plant system with fundamentally new components.

The Smith Edison is a pure electric version of the Ford Transit van, powered by lithium-ion batteries.
