Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have developed a self-assembling three-dimensional nanostructure for battery cathodes (Li-ion and NiMH) that allows for faster charging and discharging without sacrificing energy storage capacity. Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) will begin leasing approximately 200 plug-in versions of its third-generation Prius ( earlier post ) equipped with lithium-ion battery packs in Japan starting at the end of this year.
