Toyota announced that it has now sold 8,048,400 hybrid vehicles, with just 10 months elapsing between this and the last million-unit milestone. 5,264,300 of those are in the Prius family (65.4%): Prius (3,527,100); Prius α / Prius v / Prius + (582,400); Aqua / Prius c (1,081,200); and Prius PHV (73,600).

The Japanese automaking giant has surpassed 10 million hybrid sales globally since the launch of the first-generation Prius in 1997. At the Geneva Motor Show, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) announced that European sales of hybrid vehicles reached an all-time high in 2013 totaling 156,863 units, up 43% year-on-year. In Western Europe, 28% of all Toyota and Lexus vehicles sold are hybrid models. Hybrid models now represent 18.5% percentage point share gain to 4.7%.
