Both six-cylinder engines have been modified and upgraded by adding an SCR catalytic converter. Due to the SCR catalytic converter, the Touareg 4MOTION V6 TDI BlueMotion Technology meets the EU6 emissions standard. With SCR, the amount of NO x in the exhaust is significantly reduced. Also new on the V6 TDI is a coasting function.

CoolPlanet BioFuels, a start-up developing technology to convert low-grade biomass into high-grade fuels including gasoline, and carbon that can be sequestered ( earlier post ), claims it has achieved a conversion yield of 4,000 gallons gasoline/acre biomass in pilot testing using giant miscanthus, an advanced bioenergy crop.
