Purem by Eberspaecher introduces efficient exhaust technology for hydrogen engines

Green Car Congress

At the Hannover Messe, the company will be presenting its H 2 -ICE exhaust system for the first time. This is because even in hydrogen engines, exhaust gases such as nitrogen oxide and small amounts of particles and unburned hydrocarbons are produced from the engine oil pathway.

China researchers hydrotreat waste engine oil and scrap tire oil blend to produce diesel- and jet-range fuel

Green Car Congress

Researchers at Henan Polytechnic University in China have hydrotreated the oil derived from hydrothermal liquefaction of scrap tires (STO) with waste engine oil (WEO) using five different activated carbon-supported noble metal catalysts—Pd/C, Pt/C, Ru/C, Ir/C, and Rh/C—for the production of liquid fuels.

New three-step process for conversion of vegetable oils into cycloparaffinic and aromatic biofuels in jet fuel range

Green Car Congress

A team from the University of Science & Technology of China in Hefei has developed a three-step process for the conversion of vegetable oils (triglycerides) into cycloparaffinic and aromatic biofuels in jet fuel range. The team analyzed the products by Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC-MS). —Wu et al. 2016.10.030.

Oxford team directly converts CO2 to jet fuel using iron-based catalysts

Green Car Congress

The catalyst shows a carbon dioxide conversion through hydrogenation to hydrocarbons in the aviation jet fuel range of 38.2%, with a yield of 17.2%, and a selectivity of 47.8%, and with an attendant low carbon monoxide (5.6%) and methane selectivity (10.4%). In brief, the Fe–Mn–K catalyst shows a CO 2 conversion of 38.2%

Researchers propose using AC and ventilation systems for decentralized production of carbon-neutral synthetic fuels

Green Car Congress

Compact plants are to separate CO 2 from the ambient air directly in buildings and produce synthetic hydrocarbons which can then be used as renewable synthetic oil. The team presents this “crowd oil” concept in Nature Communications. hydrocracking) allowing to further increase product yield and quality.

NREL researchers report on two approaches to upgrading biomass pyrolysis oil for hydrocarbon fuels

Green Car Congress

At last month’s World Renewable Energy Forum 2012 in Denver, Colorado, researchers from the US National Renewable Energy Laboratory presented papers on two different approaches to upgrade pyrolysis oils to hydrocarbon fuels or fuel intermediates. Fast pyrolysis can convert about 70% of the mass and energy into the liquid product.
