A methanation plant expansion to the existing power-to-gas (PtG) facility in Falkenhagen, Germany has officially opened as part of the international €28-million (US$33.5-million) While the current facility feeds pure hydrogen (“WindGas”) directly into the gas grid, the new methanation plant provides for the generation of “green” methane.

Italy-based Snam, a leading energy infrastructure operator, and Saipem, an Italian multinational oilfield services company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to start working together to define and to develop initiatives for green hydrogen production and transport, and for carbon dioxide capture, transport and reuse or storage (CCS and CCU).

The new EU law will require that all carmakers achieve a 100 percent cut in CO2 emissions by 2035 for all new cars sold, eliminating the possibility that gas or petrol-fueled engines can be sold in any of the 27 countries in the EU. The EU Parliament said it will also require all cars to be CO2 neutral by 2050.

The annual assessment of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by the JRC and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL) confirms that CO 2 emissions have stalled for the third year in a row. CH 4 is mainly generated by agricultural activities, the production of coal and gas, as well as waste treatment and disposal.

Iveco has received its first contract order for 50 Stralis Hi-Ways powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). Following the opening of the first ENI Liquefied Natural Gas Station in Piacenza, LC3 was the first company in Italy to purchase the Stralis LNG and use them on the country’s roads.
