After years of waiting Australia will have a CO2 emissions standard by January 1 2025 officially encouraging the purchase of electric vehicles if an ambitious Albanese Labor government timetable comes to pass. Considered by many to be the ultimate eco-car, Mitsubishi Motors Corporation finally unveiled the production version of the i-MiEV as part of World Environment Day in Tokyo. The company will then start sales of the i-MiEV to individuals starting in April 2010 with orders to be taken on the Mitsubishi website starting in late July.

Hyundai Motor Corporation has received more than 1,000 pre-sale orders for the Avente/Elantra LPI hybrid since June 17 ahead of the car going on sale in South Korea on July 8. The LPI Hybrid qualifies as a Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle and has a fuel economy rating of 17.8km/l (42mpg) - the petrol equivalent fuel economy is 51mpg.

The Volvo Group has teamed up with the Swedish Energy Agency and international corporations Midroc and OCAS to invest £15.7million into the development of fuel cells - a move that is expected to create around 100 new positions in the Gothenburg region over the next three years.
