In addition to temperature-induced bleaching, coral reefs in many parts of the world are under stress from overfishing, destructive fishing, coastal pollution, and sedimentation. 360ppm is the level at which reefs “ cease to be viable in the long term ,” according to coral reef specialist Professor John E.N. Jack Rosebro.

Tropospheric ozone is the main cause of photochemical smog, an atmospheric pollutant harmful to human health and plant growth.

The Scoping Plan describes the comprehensive range of efforts California must take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by 2020 and meet the state’s long-term goals to combat climate change. These changes in passenger and freight transportation can only be enabled with a similar transition to a decarbonized energy sector.

Under the proposal ( earlier post ), California transit agencies would be required to purchase 100% zero-emission buses by 2040 as they gradually phase out their dependence on buses that pollute the atmosphere. CARB staff is still collecting comments , and had originally planned an April 2018 workshop to discuss a revised proposal.
