New $17M California program to improve access to clean alternative transportation modes in most vulnerable communities

A new California-wide program will make it easier for communities to get funding for clean mobility projects to improve their sustainability and quality of life. The program enables smaller groups and communities of concern that may not have the resources available to access funds for clean transportation choices. CALSTART is a nonprofit organization working with businesses and governments to develop clean, efficient transportation solutions.

SoCalGas, Oberon Fuels partner to produce Dimethyl Ether from natural gas for transportation fuel; first such commercial facility in US

SoCalGas) and Oberon Fuels , a San Diego-based low-emission alternative fuels company, announced a joint research and development agreement to design and construct the first commercial facility in the United States to produce Dimethyl Ether (DME) from natural gas for use as a transportation fuel. The facility will be located in Southern California and produce the DME, which can be used as an alternative to diesel and propane, as well as for a variety of non-transportation uses.

Pennsylvania DEP awards nearly $517,000 in clean diesel grants

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA DEP) awarded $516,637 in clean diesel grants to four organizations. The clean diesel program’s goal is to improve air quality by decreasing emissions from diesel-powered transit bus and school bus fleets. The program supports projects that re-power or retrofit fleet vehicles to curb emissions; purchase and install idle-reduction technology; or purchase clean alternative-fuel fleet vehicles.

First public trial of electric smart is launched

Cenex will deliver the trials in partnership with Newcastle-based consultancy Future Transport Systems and Newcastle University’s Transport Operations Research Group (TORG). The cars’ first placement is with Newcastle City Council, where they are supplementing its vehicle fleet and being allocated to staff making trips around the city, as an alternative to using fleet cars with conventional petrol or diesel engines.
