We’re testing the cheapest one, the single motor Rear-Wheel Drive, which lists at $58,900 before on-road costs. But I do think we’re taking minimalism just a little too far. Charging is capped at a reported 220kW, while home charging is capped at 11kW. There are two models, so far, in this new Model Y family.

As a motoring writer, this is the question we’re most asked after what’s the best you’ve driven. Beyond that, it was the Seres 3’s poor drive experience, unresolved technology features, its failure to accept DC charge without explanation and bunny hop-inducing regeneration that has landed it top on my Wall of Shame.

VW quotes a maximum charging rate of 170 kilowatts, and DC fast charging from 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity in about 20 minutes (under ideal circumstances).
