Aqua Metals is building a more sustainable battery recycling ecosystem

Charged EVs

The company is building a new plant in Nevada, and aims to be processing 10,000 tons of black mass (equivalent to about 150,000 EV battery packs) annually by 2025. That’s not to say that over the coming years, as we build a brand-new closed-loop recycling industry, that that doesn’t start to verticalize a little bit more.

Fraunhofer team develops process to recycle carbon black from car tires

Green Car Congress

A new process developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics IBP is able to isolate almost all of this ash—allowing both the carbon black and the minerals from the ash to be reused. Around three kilograms of carbon black—also known as industrial soot—are found in a standard car tire. © Fraunhofer IBP.

New mesoporous crystalline Si exhibits increased rate of H2 production; potential use in Li-ion batteries also

Green Car Congress

The standard method for manufacturing porous silicon is a subtraction method, similar to making a sculpture. Instead, Wang’s team uses a chemically based method that builds up the material rather than removing it. They then treat the material with a sodium potassium alloy. —Donghai Wang.
