developer of a low-cost hybrid electric powertrain designed specifically for class 1-3 commercial fleet use ( earlier post ), has signed an agreement with Henley Transmission Services, LLC, the largest franchise holder of AAMCO automotive service centers, to certify AAMCO technicians to install and service XL Hybrids’ hybrid-electric conversions.

This order for 32 units follows an order last year from the Boston-area transit company for 35 units that were commissioned in September 2015. Lightning Hybrids ( earlier post ) and National Fleet Hybrids have entered a partnership to sell, install and distribute Lightning’s medium-duty hydraulic hybrid retrofit systems. National Fleet Hybrids received a demonstration bus with the Lightning Hybrids system installed, a Ford E-450 shuttle bus, last week.

Kiessling Transit’s vehicles, featuring new 2015 and 2016 model year Ford E450 chassis and Elkhart Coach bodies, will have the Lightning Hybrids patented parallel hybrid system installed prior to delivery this summer. Hydraulic pumps and a lightweight accumulator store braking energy and use the stored energy to power the wheels.

As gas engine powertrains typically have 100 times the number of parts of an EV powertrain, I have only paid $300 for maintenance: comprising three tire rotations and one cabin air filter, after four years of ownership. My EV battery is warrantied for a minimum of 100K miles and eight years. There is so much to love about driving electric!
