Volvo Cars launched the battery-electric Volvo C40 Recharge; based on the CMA vehicle platform it is the first Volvo model designed as pure electric only. Following the introduction of the XC40 Recharge and now the C40 Recharge, Volvo Cars will roll out several additional electric models in coming years.

The sales growth was mainly led by the company’s fully electric cars. Volvo Cars’ Recharge line-up of chargeable models, with a fully electric or plug-in hybrid powertrain, made up 41% of all Volvo cars sold globally (67,403 units) in Q1 2023. Sales of the all-electric cars were up 140% year-on-year.

Volvo Cars has published a lifecycle analysis report on its second fully electric car, the C40 Recharge, which shows the potential CO 2 reductions if a car is built and charged using clean energy sources. However, a significantly lower carbon footprint is achieved when charging the car with renewable electricity, such as wind power.

The bill, HB 1204 / SB 5256 , requires all model year 2030 or later passenger and light-duty vehicles sold in Washington State to be electric. Electric vehicles are defined as “vehicles that use energy stored in rechargeable battery packs or in hydrogen that rely solely on electric motors for propulsion.”.
