Volvo Cars will introduce a front-wheel drive (FWD), 3-cylinder engine variant of its Twin Engine plug-in hybrid electric vehicle system in 2018, followed by its first production battery-electric vehicles and a new 48V mild hybrid system in 2019, according to Mats Anderson, Senior Director of Electric Propulsion Systems.

The V70 plug-in hybrid demonstrator highlights Volvo’s current PHEV architecture: front-wheel drive combustion engine, electric motor on the rear axle. The V70 diesel PHEV is projected to support up to a 50 km (31 mile) all-electric range—sufficient to cover the daily transport needs of 75% of European drivers.

Polestar, Volvo Cars’ new electric performance brand, introduced the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid to the public for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show. Polestar will open pre-orders for the Polestar 1 at 08:00 CET on 13 March 2018 with a request to the list of potential customers to pay a fully-refundable deposit of €2,500.
