Groundbreaking in Frankfurt for hydrogen refueling station for trains

Representatives from the State of Hesse, RMV (Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund), Alstom and Infraserv broke ground for a hydrogen filling station on the site of the Höchst industrial park in Frankfurt that will supply a fleet of 27 passenger fuel cell trains—currently, the world’s largest such.

Volvo Cars trucks-to-trains swap significantly cuts emissions in logistics network

On another route, from Ghent to a second depot in Austria, emissions were cut by almost half since switching to rail transports. Under the plan, the company aims to reduce its lifecycle carbon footprint per car by 40% between 2018 and 2025, which will require a 25% reduction in operational emissions, including logistics.

Alstom and MOL to explore use of hydrogen technologies for rail transport in Hungary

Alstom is a pioneer of hydrogen technology, having introduced the Coradia iLint to the German market in September 2018 ( earlier post ). The Coradia iLint trains have run more than 200,000 km with zero CO 2 emission in passenger service in Germany and Austria and has been successfully tested in the Netherlands.
