One response by automakers to increasingly stringent fuel economy requirements is the use of GDI engines, which offer up to a 25% improvement in fuel economy compared to port fuel injection (PFI) engines. Hence, GDI PM mass loadings and chemical composition may vary depending on the measurement environment or exhaust conditioning.
