Latest GHG Inventory shows California remains below 2020 emissions target; much steeper rate of GHG reductions required

Green Car Congress

California’s latest greenhouse gas data shows that while the state continues to stay below its 2020 target for emissions, there is much more work to do to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045. California statewide GHG emissions dropped below the 2020 GHG Limit in 2016 and have remained below the 2020 GHG Limit since then.

MIT study finds real-world NOx from diesels cars in Europe greatly exceeds laboratory levels; transboundary emissions cause 70% of health impacts

Green Car Congress

A new study by MIT researchers, published this month in Atmospheric Environment , finds that in Europe, 10 major auto manufacturers produced diesel cars, sold between 2000 and 2015, that generate up to 16 times more NO x emissions on the road than in regulatory tests—a level that exceeds European limits but does not violate any EU laws.

EEA: almost all Euro car makers met specific 2017 CO2 targets on new sales, but emissions up year-on-year

Green Car Congress

All but three European car manufacturers met their specific emission targets in 2017, based on current European vehicle test rules. Nevertheless, average carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions from new cars sold in the European Union in 2017 rose by 0.4g The final data show that average CO 2 emissions of a new car sold in the EU rose by 0.4

Study finds lead from leaded gasoline persists in London air despite ‘90s ban

Green Car Congress

The researchers say this highlights the long-term persistence of contaminants introduced by human activities in the environment. The researchers took eighteen samples of airborne particles at street level in Marylebone in the summer of 2018, and 20 samples on a 24-meter-high rooftop at Imperial’s South Kensington campus between 2014 and 2018.

Swiss study finds that studies on air pollution that ignore impact of noise overestimate effects of pollution on heart attacks

Green Car Congress

The study looked at the combined effects of air pollution and transportation noise for heart attack mortality, by considering all deaths that occurred in Switzerland between 2000 and 2008. The study included all deaths (19,261) reported across Switzerland from the period 2000 to 2008.
