Between my electric bikes, e-motorcycles, e-ATVs, electric tractors, and a few other things I’m probably forgetting, having a weather-sealed, solar-powered off-grid charging shed would be a big benefit. There are many ways to skin a cat, and even more ways to add solar power to a shipping container. Here’s how I did it.

It was one year ago that we decided to add solar panels to our roof. If you plug in an old school light bulb and find that a current of 1/4 amp is flowing through it, you know that the power used by the bulb is (240) x (1/4), or 60 watts. In March 2020 we installed 9 solar panels an inverter and 2 battery packs.

We’ve now got some Mo going with: California solar loan financing that will eliminate the big up front cost of solar. With the coming solar feed-in tariff legislation moving through Sacramento that will pay us for the extra solar energy we produce and feed back into the grid.
