Ford unveiled the F-150 Lightning battery-electric pickup. F-150 Lightning offers a standard-range battery targeting 230 miles of EPA-estimated range and an extended-range battery targeting 300 miles of EPA-estimated range. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum, Lariat, XLT. Ford is taking reservations with a $100 deposit.

Ford has spent a lot of time touting the electrification of its venerable F-150. I found out a while back – and I came away impressed with the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. The Lightning won’t be the only EV truck performing this feat, so Ford doesn’t get special credit, but it’s a cool side benefit to electrification nonetheless.

No less an auto industry titan as Ford has also made bidirectional charging a selling point of their F-150 Lightning electric truck, reportedly slated to roll off the lines this year. In case of power outage at home, the DC pins in the charger can send juice back into the house, keeping the lights on.

We did not have the opportunity to assess laden performance or range and a brief 25-minute drive was not long enough to accurately assess how far one of these utes will travel before needing to re-juice – loaded, towing or otherwise. Ford claims a range of 510km, and by all accounts, this is a fairly accurate indication.
