Hochgraf found that in 2010, the top 10 most efficient powertrains on the city cycle all had CVTs and were hybrids. Three of the top te most efficient powertrains in the highway cycle did not use CVTs or hybrid powertrains. PABE is affected by hybridization, by engine efficiency, by accessory loads (e.g., Hochgraf 2011.

Combined reported US hybrid sales (from Toyota, Honda, Ford, GM and Nissan) in April totalled 21,735 units, a 45.5% Reported hybrid new vehicle share in April 2008 was 3.2%—the GM delivered a total of 1,534 hybrid vehicles in the month. Ford, Lincoln and Mercury sales totaled 129,898, down 31% compared with April 2008.

Since the Clean Car Discount was introduced, EV and hybrids have grown to over a third of new registrations, already saving the country over $100m a year in fuel. While EV registrations have picked up dramatically, they still only comprise less than 2 per cent of the fleet. There’s much more to be done.

In April, 39% of all vehicles sold were an EV, PHEV or a hybrid. Some key stats: In New Zealand right now there are more than 70 models of new EVs available.
