Air pollution from sources such as transport and agriculture is still being emitted above legal limits in 10 European Union (EU) Member States according to new data published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). The main reasons for the exceedances are emissions from road transport (NO x ) and agriculture (NH 3 ).

The hybrid drives combine a modern diesel engine with an electric motor and batteries to recover braking energy, reducing fuel consumption and CO 2 emissions by up to 25%. The plug-in hybrid drive reduces diesel fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions by up to 75%, compared to a conventional diesel bus. Hamburg, Luxembourg and Stockholm will implement the new bus system in 2014 and 2015. The Volvo 7900 Electric Hybrid runs in electric mode on average 70% of the route, silent and emission-free.
