France-based Scaleo chip has introduced AMEC (Advanced Motor Events Control), a technology for internal combustion engines and electric motors control. AMEC—a flexible microcontroller interface for engine control—will be first available in OLEA, Scaleo chip’s new family of microcontrollers optimized for powertrain systems.

Pneumatic hybrid engine on the test bench. Researchers at ETH Zürich are developing a pneumatic hybrid engine—an internal combustion engine connected to a compressed air tank instead of a battery system. If fuel is also injected, the engine responds quickly. The compressed air supply also allows extreme downsizing.

Dearman’s liquid nitrogen-powered engine ( earlier post ) is zero emission. The technology will replace diesel-powered secondary engines used to power (TRUs), which are used to keep food cold on the road. Since the Dearman TRU is zero-emission, it would qualify to operate in cities planning to regulate the use of diesel.
