After spending the past year and a half converting a Porsche 914 to an electric vehicle, I decided to expand my horizons by designing an open-source electric vehicle (EV) conversion kit for a commonly used car. All the commercially available freeway-capable (70 mph) EVs are priced way out of reach for the average consumer.

I personally can fairly quickly translate kilometers and kilometers per hour into miles and mph, but god help me if I try to quickly convert Celsius to Fahrenheit or vice versa. Second, what tricks do you use for quick conversions? So I have a few questions for y'all. First off, what's your comfort level with using it?

Nearly five years in the making, this prototype targets a flight range of 50 miles (80 km) and a cruising speed of 75 mph (120 km/h). The aircraft, which can reach cruising speeds of 65 knots (about 75 mph) weighs two tons and has a 40-foot wingspan – so it’s by no means a tiny aircraft. Perhaps closer to people talking loudly.
