The Abfallentsorgungs-Gesellschaft Ruhrgebiet mbH ( AGR ), a waste management company in Herten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, has put a converted DAF CF 340 hydrogen fuel cell truck into operation as part of the EU-funded HECTOR (Hydrogen Waste Collection Vehicles in North West Europe) project.

Universal Hydrogen has flown a 40-passenger regional airliner using hydrogen fuel cell propulsion. In this first test flight, one of the airplane’s turbine engines was replaced with Universal Hydrogen’s fuel cell-electric, megawatt-class powertrain. The other remained a conventional engine for safety of flight.

Airbus is developing a hydrogen-powered fuel cell engine. Airbus will start ground and flight testing this fuel cell engine architecture onboard its ZEROe demonstrator aircraft towards the middle of the decade. There are two ways hydrogen can be used as a power source for aircraft propulsion.

Renewable hydrogen systems manufacturer Ways2H Inc. announced the completion of a facility in Tokyo that will convert sewage sludge into renewable hydrogen fuel for fuel cell mobility and power generation. The waste is heated to a high temperature and converted into a gas, from which pure hydrogen is extracted.

Air Products and Cummins signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to work together to accelerate the integration of hydrogen fuel cell trucks in the Americas, Europe and Asia. The best way to promote the adoption of hydrogen for mobility in heavy-duty applications is for us to have units on the road and lead by example.
