They wanted to see whether an electric vehicle could feed electricity back to the grid. The company’s president, Tom Gage , dubbed the system “vehicle to grid” or V2G. And EV owners would become entrepreneurs, selling electricity back to the grid. And indeed, that’s how promoters of vehicle-to-grid technology perceive the EV.

In a recent vote, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) authorized Southern California Edison (SCE) to procure between 1,400 and 1,800 megawatts (MW) of electrical capacity in the Los Angeles basin. Separately and earlier, SCE may also file applications for gas-fired generation in order to expedite review of such contracts.

Breakthroughs in battery technology, carbon sequestration, and other energy technologies that result in a five-fold improvement over current technology could literally change the world.
