Under the new Global Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Zero-Emission Medium- and Heavy-Duty Vehicles (ZE-MHDVs), Austria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey, United Kingdom, Uruguay and Wales are setting an interim goal of 30% zero-emission new vehicle sales by 2030.

The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has formed a 12-member advisory group charged with promoting sustainable transport systems to further growth and development while protecting the environment and limiting the impact on climate change. Most of that will be caused by a projected surge in the number of vehicles around the world.
