Bosch is working on sensor technology for air taxis. The Boston Consulting Group predicts that people around the world will take 1 billion flights in air taxis in 2030, once sharing services have also established a presence on fixed routes above the ground; most of those air taxis will be capable of operating without a pilot.

Together with eight project partners, it is now seeking public funding to build one of the world’s first hydrogen-powered high-speed vessels. TECO 2030 has signed an agreement with UiT The Arctic University of Norway—which has a campus in Narvik—to cooperate on enhancing research and education in Norway on hydrogen and fuel cells.

Better Place has received an award from the Japanese government to conduct a pilot project in Tokyo for the world’s first electric taxis with switchable batteries. In the course of this project, experts from the Volkswagen Code Lab in San Francisco and the Volkswagen Data Lab in Munich and used data from approximately 10,000 taxis in Beijing. Data scientists and AI specialists from Volkswagen have successfully programmed an algorithm to optimize the travel time of all public taxis in the city.
