IEA: global CO2 emissions rebounded to their highest level in history in 2021; largely driven by China

Green Car Congress

Output from wind and solar PV increased by 270 TWh and 170 TWh, respectively, while hydro generation declined due to the impacts of drought, notably in the United States and Brazil. Renewables-based generation reached an all-time high, exceeding 8,000 terawatt-hours (TWh) in 2021, a record 500 TWh above its 2020 level.

Global CO2 emissions up 3% in 2011; per capita CO2 emissions in China reach EU levels

Green Car Congress

The United States remain one of the largest emitters of CO2, with 17.3 One of the main CO 2 reduction options is the use of ‘new’ renewable energy sources (excluding hydropower), such as solar and wind energy and biofuels. In China, the world’s most populous country, average emissions of CO 2 increased by 9% to 7.2 tonnes per capita.

IISA study proposes using airships for efficient cargo or hydrogen transportation

Green Car Congress

These projections necessitate finding new approaches to transporting cargo with a lower demand for energy and lower CO2 emissions. In the study, researchers from IIASA, Brazil, Germany, and Malaysia looked into how an airship-based industry could be developed using the jet stream as the energy medium to transport cargo around the world.

What is Electrification of Transportation?

Driivz

Globally, the transportation sector contributes about 25% of all CO2 emissions. In Norway , which is the world leader in renewable energy use, 45% of electricity comes from hydropower, while Brazil in second place gets 32% of its total energy supply from biofuel and waste energy. What is the potential for reducing emissions?
