Karma Automotive--the carmaker formerly known as Fisker Automotive--says it will use BMW powertrain components in upcoming production models. BMW will supply high-voltage battery charging systems and "a wide range of hybrid and EV systems" for the Karma luxury sedan, which the company expects to relaunch in 2016.

A study by researchers at the Institute of Transportation Studies, UC Davis finds that buyers of plug-in vehicles (PEVs) are substantially less satisfied with the dealer purchase experience than buyers of conventional vehicles—with the notable exception of Tesla buyers. In some cases, dealers outright discouraged PEV purchases.

BMW used a range extender with its i3 REx, and at the end of the life cycle essentially said that the batteries had improved enough to push the idea to extinction. One of the few other vehicles to have used such a system is the Karma Revero —also called the GS-6 and, originally, the Fisker Karma. But in 2021 it aborted that plan.
